SEO Strategies for Google, MSN and Yahoo
The single most important point to making a seo friendly website is to create your website with the “user” in mind, rather than to create a website designed for a search engine. Search engines are very clever and their algorithms are designed to find and display websites with relevant content and relevant design for users. A site full of specific targeted keyword lists and hidden links may seem to be a great idea in theory, but in reality it will only count against you in the long term.
These guidelines are designed to provide a bit of assistance to beginners of SEO - if you are an advanced search engine optimiser or online marketing service agency then you will probably already know this!
Onsite SEO
1. Create pages/articles with unique content. Pages written in good quality english, containing useful and readable information regarding the topic or theme of your website is essential to rank well in the SERP’s for your target search terms. If you write about the topic you want to rank for, so long as you include the actual words you are targetting somewhere in the text, then google will pick it up.
2. Create user friendly URLS - keep you URLs of the webpages on your site short, specific and relevant. URLs such as www.healthy2eat.co.uk/healthy-books/ is an excellent url that is clearly about one subject, and is easily readable. URLS such as www.healthy2eat.co.uk/10-1-201/healthybooksforreadingandstuff.co.uk is not a great url both for a user and for a search engine
Offsite SEO
1. Link Build Naturally. Buying lot’s of dodgy $2 links from indian websites may seem like a great idea and you may even get credit for it for a month of so, but over time google will quickly forget about these links. You are much better off with contacting relevant theme sites that are ranking well for your target keyphrases and requesting a link exchange, or negotiating a purchased link on their website. A in-context link is a much more natural way to linkbuild as this is requires much more human intervention to produce rather than simply posting a text link.
2. Tell the world about your website and post build up a network of contacts within your industry. Sites like twitter, facebook and digg are great for cheaply building and generating traffic.
